Ladies! You matter…

Building on the popular Man Cave group that was set up in June 2019. The Self Care Movement has been developed and launched for any ladies in the local area that have forgotten the importance of self care in their daily life.

The Self Care Movement has been set up with the sole intention of showing people the benefits of Self Care. It is open to anyone who has found themselves struggling or overwhelmed with looking after everyone else and never taking time for themselves.

In life it is key that we take care of ourselves before we can then go on to look after our family and friends.

Over the programme we explore the reasons why we need to practice self care in order to look after ourselves. We look at the barriers that can cause us to let our self care slip. By acknowledging these barriers and realising that sometimes we need to put ourselves first, we then move on to exploring ways in which we can practice self care.

Contrary to popular belief that self care is all about pamper days, luxury meals and candlelit baths, we start off with short 5-10 minutes exercises that we can slowly introduce over the course of the 4 week programme. We look at mindfulness, meditation and the use of gratitude in our daily life to help create a more positive mindset. We sometimes lose sight of the importance of sitting in silence with a hot drink because we are always thinking of what we need to be crossing off our "to-do" list! This programme is to remind everyone that being in the moment is all part of our own self care.

We get the ladies involved by thinking of hobbies they may have an interest in but do not have the confidence or motivation to pursue. We have specialists each week delivering workshops on activities that the group have expressed an interest in.

These can include:

  • Cake decorating

  • Adult colouring

  • Vision boards

  • Crystal healing

  • Reiki

  • Meditation

  • Creating positive body image

After the programme our hope is that the ladies go back to their lives feeling uplifted, positive and determined to build their own self care routine.

Working with the feedback we receive we are constantly working on the content so that the programme takes all the suggestions on board so that everyone gets the most out of The Self Care Movement.

*please note that all groups and activities are for clients who have already been seen by a Suicide Intervention Worker and cannot be accessed by the general public on a walk in basis.
